kids_at_lakeWith a new year of camping in Colorado here, it is very important to make sure you get everything lined up for the new outdoor camping season. If you truly want to enjoy as much of Colorado as possible make sure that you pick up an annual park pass. This is good idea if you plan on visiting any state park throughout the year for more than 10 days total. It’s a great way to save money as well as help the State Parks get money they need to maintain and protect our local outdoor treasures.

Buying a park pass can save you a great deal of money throughout the year, but it will also help you to start enjoying your Colorado State Parks more quickly! Most visitors don’t have Park Passes and are often forced to wait in long lines on busy days to enter the park. If you have a park pass you can often enter the park through a special lane allowing you to bypass the line of visitors without Park Passes, waiting to get into the park.

If you have more than one vehicle, you can get additional annual Park Passes for half the price of the first Park Pass. It makes good economic sense to think about what vehicles you’ll be taking into the state Parks on these trips. If you have a camper or an RV you’ll definitely want to get a park pass for those vehicles. I would suggest keeping multiple park passes for your more rugged and roomy vehicles, such as your SUV or truck. Considering the price of gasoline, your first thought might be to take the more economic vehicle, especially if you are headed to a Park that is some distance away.  However, you may find yourself exploring the area around Colorado’s State parks and end up on dirt or 4×4 roads where sedans and sports cars should not go. When you get a pass for your RV, be sure to get a pass for the secondary vehicle you tow behind your RV.
